Illegal Music Distribution (Nordic News. October, 2010)

This is my first article for Inglemoor's Nordic News. The issue was published this past October. I got to interview the lead vocalist and instrumentalist of Seattle band, Ravenna Woods, for it, so thanks a bunch to him for allowing me his time.

Oh yeah, right now sucks a lot. So I'm listening to Snowing on repeat.

Why can't I see the sunspots in your eyes?

Sorry for my bad english and grammar ; How about this, i am not saying that piracy is harmless, but the problem with falling records sales are due to many factors. Pointing your finger at piracy is too simplified. For example musicians have to compete against other entertainment deals like movies, games, etc. and furthermore ; People use music differently today ;

- Most people today regard music as secondary product ; eg. In denmark you can buy a mobile phone with a subscribtion service where you can download tons of music for a very small amount of money which again does not generate a big revenue (If at all!) for the artist.

- And people today tend to buy singles instead of albums!

Solution ?!? : CWF + RTB = $.

In the process of writing this article, I realized I didn't have the best understanding of the music industry... how money is made and how artists are affected. This sort of jumped out at me when I conducted my interview, and to my surprise, received responses that were opposite of what I'd expected. I'll agree that there are many more factors involved, but for the sake of writing this article at the time, I had to use my (limited) understanding and personal biases (almost all my music comes from physical albums that I purchase). It was an opinion piece, but I suppose there's a lot more to the subject that I should understand.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for my own late one,
Anna
