An Exciting Lesson

It’s been a long time since I’ve written in my blog but that’s because Arthur, my brother, has been using the computer for his cartoons. I’ve had a lot of riding lessons since then but I’m only going to write about one since it’s the most exciting.

I had this lesson on Tuesday, not the regular Sunday. There are three horses that I could ride except one was sold a couple weeks ago. Another horse Lily, worked enough that week so I couldn’t ride her either. The Last one, Packer, had some kind of fungus so he could not be ridden. Since I couldn't ride any of them my instructor let me ride Curtis, a Danish Warmblood. He was the biggest horse I ever saw and he was the biggest in Futurity Farms.

He was BIG but fun to ride. I only did walking and trotting because I had to get used to his giant steps. The walk seemed like the trot and the trot felt as fast as the canter. Probably the canter will be like galloping but who knows how fast the gallop would be?! I had to use a mounting block to get on and a little block thing to stand on while brushing. The reason why this lesson was so exciting other than riding a Danish Warmblood was because I fell off. It was the first time I fell off and I will never forget it. Well you could call it falling off but it was more like slipping off . It went like this- I was trying to fix my leg in the stirrup but then my leg slipped off. I lost balance and slipped to the right side of the horse since I lost the left stirrup and Curtis went from his trot to a walk when he felt something strange going on up one his back. I was hanging on to his neck and I slipped off. It didn’t hurt because the arena dirt was soft. Nothing bad happened for the rest of the day. My next lesson is on Monday(5/16/05).
